The Hancock Pass road starts out of St. Elmo and ends at the intersection with the Tomichi Pass road and FR 839, which is east of Pitkin. The road has a couple small rocky areas on either side of the pass, but otherwise is flat. There are some nice views of surrounding mountains from the 12,140' summit, and the odd-looking structure that is part of the Allie Belle mine (near the old town site of Hancock) on the northern end of the road, will surely be cause for a picture-taking stop.
