Hermit Pass is the 4th highest pass in the state
at 13,020'. It's a relative unknown, but provides excellent views of the
Wet Mountain Valley to the east and great views to the north and south
along this wonderful range. The trail itself is very tame, but is rather
chatty if running tires at street pressure as there are seemingly constant
small, embedded rocks. Once at the top, you have to go back the way you
came as this is not a through road to the west side. If you hike the short
distance to the top of Hermit Peak, you will be rewarded with even greater
views. The pass lies due west of Westcliffe.
I have an updated gallery that I'll install at a later date.
