This road goes between Ophir (just south of Telluride) to the west and the southern foot of Red Mountain Pass to the east. The road is very easy, but has one of the most unforgettable views in the San Juans looking north from the pass summit. A passenger car would probably be able to make the summit coming from the Highway 550 side, but it is a little rockier on the western side.
