Installed on 4/21/03 These were the third set of Slee-Sliders™ to be installed on a third generation 4Runner, and the first set of the production run. The previous two are owned by my good friends and local neighbors, Scott Yoder and Mike Brown. Their initial prototype sets were designed to be semi-removable, whereby the receiver mounts were welded on the frame and the slider legs were bolted into the mounts. But in order to reduce cost, Christo Slee redesigned them to be a direct weld-on application. The other new change making its debut on my set, is the middle plate with the Slee logo, which replaced two supports to the outer rail. While no doubt they are on the pricey side, their durability and rigidity have been proven. To wonderfully illustrate this, check out this video of Scott giving them the hardest hit foreseeable: Video clip (408 kb) All that, and they only deflected the 3/8" (which is the gap between the sliders and the body seam) and only chipped some paint off the body seam/pinch weld. I'm confident a number of other sliders I've seen made for the third generation 4Runners would not have faired so well.
