I was invited to this run on 12/28/03 by some folks from the 80sCool board. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone minded that my little IFS 4Runner crashed the party! I was thankful for the invite as this turned out to be an incredibly awesome run even though the temperature was only 9 degrees with a solid wind all day. That was the coldest I've been in a long time, but well worth facing the elements to be sure. At the start of the run (out of Central City),
we faced little snow and we were wondering if it would get any deeper.
Not to worry, we found it alright, and plenty of it. After blowing through
a couple of optional drifts before lunch, we pressed on. Shortly after
lunch, we really started to hit the deeper stuff. By the time we reached
our stopping point for the day, we were blazing new tracks, thanks to
Robbie who was doing most of the work so the rest of us could follow.
Quite a bit of the road was lined in a tight tunnel of trees and we all
got some pinstripe detailing and tree branches as souvenirs. It's almost
a week later as I write this and I still have some tree parts pinned in
by my windshield wipers and other remnants on my rack! Should make for
a good campfire the next time I head out! Here are my videos from the trip. I apologize in advance as they are not compressed as of yet: Robbie getting stuck for the first time of the day (4.5 MB) Robbie doing some tree work as he's getting pulled out (5.6 MB) Brendan needing a 2nd attempt to get through a drift (10 MB) Robbie trying to blow this drift up (1.5 MB) Robbie still working on the same drift (3 MB) Michael going through the same drift after a few of us have made it through (1 MB) Robbie going through the 3rd drift of the day (5.7 MB) Michael barely making it through this section (4.6 MB) Mike putting his V8 to work (3.4 MB) Robbie getting stuck . . . again! (3.8 MB) After I pull him out, Robbie goes at it again and is successful this time around (2.8 MB) |
