The Great Sand Dunes are tucked against a low point between Medano and Mosca passes and between the Sangre de Cristo range crest and the Blanca massif. While the boundaries of the preserve portion of the park extend well past the dune field, the pictures in this gallery only contains images in the immediate dune field area. The Great Sand Dunes are the highest and tallest in North America and cover thirty square miles.
